Scholarships up to $18,000 on offer for rural and regional students
Regional and remote students are encouraged to apply for a scholarship worth up to $18,000 to support their tertiary education.
Round 5 of the Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarships (RRES) is still open, to support eligible students to undertake courses from Certificate IV to PhD level.
More than $62 million has been directed to the program since 2017, delivering more than 3000 scholarships to regional and remote students to access a tertiary education.
The program provides students financial support to go towards the costs of completing their studies, and has supported a number of students who would have otherwise been unable to afford a higher education.
“We want to provide as many opportunities as possible for individuals in regional and remote Australia to pursue further study, and relieving the financial burden is one way to help them to do that,” Minister for Regionalisation, Regional Communications and Regional Education Senator the Hon Bridget McKenzie said.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for regional and remote students and I encourage all those eligible to apply.”
Zoe Radford completed a Masters of Education through the University of New England with the support of a RRES scholarship.
“The scholarship lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. It allowed me to put more time into my studies, purchase textbooks and supplies instead of worrying about paying rent and bills every week,” Ms Radford said.
“I couldn’t recommend applying for this RRES scholarship enough. It has allowed me to focus and succeed in completing my studies without added financial pressure.”
Ms Radford encouraged other students from country Australia to do “everything in your power” to continue to learn.
