New Broome childcare centre to support local families and workforce

A new early learning centre is set to open in Broome North this August, offering increased childcare capacity and creating new employment opportunities in the region.
Broome North Childcare, a 103-place service located at the corner of Yako Mall and Shingoro Street in Waranyjarri Estate, will feature five classrooms for children aged from birth to six years. The facility will also include two outdoor play areas and a seasonal growing garden to support outdoor learning and sustainability.
The new centre forms part of the broader Waranyjarri Estate development, a 700-hectare residential project expected to house up to 13,000 residents over time.
Supporting families, jobs and regional growth
Planning and Lands Minister John Carey said the centre would help meet growing demand for early learning in the region and support parents returning to work.
“The State Government is committed to supporting Broome’s growth by delivering more homes and creating new job opportunities, as well as supporting expanded childcare in the region,” Mr Carey said.
“Through projects like Waranyjarri Estate, we’re not only providing land for housing but also helping attract and retain skilled workers to Broome, strengthening the local economy and supporting families in the region.”
Several early childhood educators have already relocated to Broome to take up roles at the service, with more recruitment underway.
Families can now register for enrolment via the Broome North Childcare page on SmartCentral.
Community investment and design
Located just two kilometres from Cable Beach and five kilometres north of Broome’s town centre, Waranyjarri Estate is Western Australia’s only regional development accredited as both an EnviroDevelopment and Waterwise project. The estate has been recognised for its climate-responsive design and environmental sustainability features.
The final phase of Tanami Drive’s construction is also underway, which will improve access to the new centre and neighbouring residential areas.
Kimberley MLA Divina D’Anna welcomed the addition of the new centre.
“It is fantastic that the new service will increase childcare options in Broome and help support working families,” she said.
“Broome North Childcare will be a welcome addition to the growing community, offering quality early learning and new jobs for the region.”
