Special Parliament House event sees Playgroup NSW celebrate National Playgroup Week

The Hon. Minister Kate Washington and Playgroup NSW CEO Emily Caska will be present at a special event tomorrow, being held at Parliament House tomorrow, celebrating National Playgroup Week.
Held from 17 – 23 March, National Playgroup Week celebrates the vital role playgroups play in shaping the future of Australia’s children and families. Throughout the week families, early childhood educators and community members join together to raise awareness about the positive impact of playgroups and the importance of supporting early learning environments.
The 2025 theme Play For Our Future highlights the crucial role that playgroups serve in the early development of children and how they lay the foundation for a brighter tomorrow.
Playgroups provide opportunities for young children to learn, socialise, and explore their world, all while fostering meaningful connections with parents and carers. With the ongoing challenges posed by social isolation, community building, and the evolving needs of young families, playgroups are more essential than ever.
The event will feature a panel of lived experience speakers sharing their stories, followed by an afternoon tea, and presents a unique opportunity to hear first-hand how playgroups are making a difference, as well as to connect with fellow supporters of early childhood development.
“National Playgroup Week is a time to celebrate the immeasurable impact that playgroups have on both children and their families,” Ms Caska said.
“Playgroups are the heart of early childhood development, where children experience the joys of play and learning while parents and caregivers build lasting relationships. This week, we encourage all families to get involved and support playgroups in their local communities. The future of our children starts here, through connection, creativity, and play.”
For Jennifer Kemp, Chief Social Impact Officer at Playgroup NSW, National Playgroup Week, and the 2025 theme is more than just a campaign – it’s a movement.
“We know that quality early learning experiences, like those provided through playgroups, are key to setting children up for lifelong success,” she said.
“It’s a privilege to be part of a community that recognises the power of play and supports families in giving their children the best start in life. National Playgroup Week serves as an important reminder to all of us that investing in play is investing in the future.”
During National Playgroup Week, Playgroup NSW is encouraging people to visit the NationalPlaygroupWeek.org.au website to learn more about workshops, initiatives, and how to support and engage with playgroups across the state.
