The Power of Playgroups to be celebrated during National Playgroup Week

National Playgroup Week will be celebrated and acknowledged from 17 – 23 March, highlighting the role playgroups play in fostering connection, learning, and support for families nationwide.
The 2025 theme, ‘The Power of Playgroups,’ is especially relevant given the challenges families face in 2025 space when it comes to the high cost of living.
Playgroups, Playgroup Australia CEO Patricia O’Donovan said, have an incredible impact on children, parents, and communities, emphasising the importance of playgroups in strengthening early childhood development, parenting capacity and community networks.
Given the role playgroups play as powerful community connectors, Ms O’Donovan said, they need to have a locally relevant approach.
“At this time when families are struggling with the high cost of living, playgroups have become lifelines and climate havens in communities,” she said.
“They provide opportunities for families to share stories and resources, and children to play, make friends and practice social skills. They are a base for food distribution, a refuge from extreme heat for families who cannot afford cooling in the home, they enable clothes and toy swaps,” she continued.
“They create enduring social networks, and their impact is powerful and tangible.”
National Playgroup Week will feature a range of events across the country and all families are encouraged to participate and experience first-hand the joy and benefits of playgroup.
