Jessica Addo celebrated as part of the Tropical North Queensland cohort in Training Awards

Jessica Addo was named as the winner of the Vocational Student of the Year for Tropical North Queensland at a ceremony held in Cairns on Friday last week.
Ms Addo was one of 11 category winners in the 62nd Queensland Training Awards, and will join other regional winners in progressing to the State Final in September, with the opportunity to compete for national titles at the Australian Training Awards in November.
The 2023 Queensland Training Awards showcase the great work done in vocational education and training (VET) across the state, with categories for apprentices, trainees, vocational students, teachers and trainers, as well as training providers and employers.
Ms Addo completed a Certificate IV and Diploma in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education through RATEP and TAFE Far North, and now works as a PCYC Outside School Hours Care Supervisor and is studying a Bachelor of Education.
She is a passionate representative for women’s rugby league and is deeply connected to her Aboriginal community in Cairns and Mornington Island.
Member for Cairns Michael Healy (who represented Minister for Employment and Small Business and Minister for Training and Skills of Queensland Di Farmer at the awards) said Ms Addo was “one of many high-achievers in our wonderful community,” wishing her and the other winners from Tropical North Queensland all the best at the Queensland Training Awards state finals in September.
