Long Street Early Years report delayed to allow more time for investigations

Victoria’s Frankston Council will delay a planned 14 June Langwarrin Child and Family Centre Response to Long Street Reserve Petition Report to 31 July to allow additional time for further investigations into kindergarten alternatives.

The Langwarrin Child and Family Centre has been proposed to meet the expected increase in demand for early years’ services due to the Victorian Government’s Free Kindy model. Long Street Reserve has been selected for the site of the new centre.

However, during a Council Meeting on 14 June, a report was presented covering the need for a Kindergarten Strategy including the next planned sites for kindergarten upgrades; Baden Powell Preschool in Frankston South and Seaford Kindergarten. Extensive community engagement will follow the Council decision, which at this stage is likely to start in July.

“With the Victorian Government’s announcement on increased accessibility to three- and four-year-old kindergarten commencing from 2025, it is essential Council thoroughly considers all options,” a spokesperson said.

“This ongoing investigation into the options for a Langwarrin Child and Family Centre will provide adequate time to consider the early years needs for the Langwarrin area and will ensure all aspects have been considered prior to a Council decision on 31 July.”

Councillors understand there is community concern regarding the proposed Langwarrin centre and are committed to examining all options.

The 31 July Council Report on the Langwarrin Child and Family Centre will include the Community Engagement Report and other studies.
