Latest Child Care Enforcement Action Register released – 9 cases in Q3 2019

A total of nine early childhood education and care services were sanctioned and/or had their licenses to operate immediately suspended in the three months ended September 2019 with family day care services making up the majority of the list. 

 

The details were revealed in the latest update of the Child Care Enforcement Action Register, released by the Department of Education, Skills and Employment, which acts as a public record of ECEC services that have been found to be undertaking illegal or fraudulent activities. 

 

Family day care, which has been by far the hardest hit within the ECEC community, saw four service approvals cancelled and two suspended which although notable is very materially lower than the numbers recorded from Q3 2017 to Q2 2018 when the crackdown on law breaking services commenced in earnest. 

 

 

Since Q2 2018 the quarterly incidences of cancelled and/or suspended licences has fallen and subsequently stabilised in and around 10 services per quarter. 

 

Notably, over the course of the last two years 96.6 per cent of the 295 sanctions or suspensions issued were to family day care operators, with the balance of just 10 incidents spread between long day care and outside school of hours care. 

 

New South Wales and Victoria are the states where the vast majority of action has been taken with around 84 per cent of all sanctions and suspensions issued in the last 24 months.
