Early childhood education and care (ECEC) provider Keiki Early Learning recently celebrated 21 years of providing learning and care to the communities it serves with a special celebration featuring a concert, time capsule ceremony and visits by local members of Parliament.

The kindergarten children from Keiki Mindarie Keys performed for guests before sharing some of the things they love about their service with the crowd, before presenting  local MP Tracey Roberts – Federal Member for Pearce (pictured left) – with a commemorative book and a big bunch of flowers.

As part of the celebrations, Keiki created a time capsule that will be buried in the Mindarie Keys garden where it will be safely hidden for 9 years and opened when the service turns 30. The capsule contains special photos, messages from the children and interesting facts about today, offering a glimpse back in time for future children and staff at Keiki Mindarie Keys.

Guests also enjoyed an afternoon tea as part of the celebrations.

Service owner Sam Morrell (pictured right), a Mindarie local, shared the secrets of 21 years of service, saying that having long term staff, and a philosophy of continuous improvement has been at the centre.

“Over 21 years, I feel privileged to have provided high quality care and early education to thousands of children at Keiki Mindarie Keys. We have also been able to establish a team of long term, passionate educators – including our amazing Centre Coordinator Ruth who has been part of this service for more than ten years,” she said.

“In recent years, we have been part of a full circle – with new trainee and work experience staff coming through that we educated when they were children, and even a former enrolled child of Keiki Mindarie Keys returning as a mum, with her own young baby joining the service.”

Recent upgrades to the service have included a ‘secret’ nature garden rich with trees and plants, new nature play structures and calming indoor spaces that have been completely refurbished to create a modern yet homely aesthetic.

“We love looking for new ways that we can deliver the best quality education for the children in our care, and despite being 21 years old, Mindarie Keys offers state-of-the-art environments, equipment and resources,” Mrs Morrell said.

“Everything is carefully designed to spark curiosity, enhance children’s physical capabilities, and encourage learning through play.”

“It’s a joy to be part of this community as both a resident and a business owner, and it is such a pleasure to see the children learn, grow confident and eventually graduate to school-based education each year,” she added.

Keiki Early Learning is a family owned and operated business, which offers long day care and outside school hours care, and was established in 2003 by sisters Sam Morrell and Angela Palmer.
