ECEC employees receiving 457 visas after 1 July 2023 will see base salary boost of 30%

A notice from the Department of Home Affairs has confirmed that migrant visa salary thresholds are to rise with the minimum amount to be paid to migrant workers on 457 visas increasing from $53,900 to $70,000 on 1 July 2023.
Early childhood education and care (ECEC) educators and teachers currently on the Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457) who are working for an approved business will not be impacted by this change, nor will those with nominations lodged before the 1 July 2023.
However, any new nomination applications for 457 visas after 1 July will need to meet the new Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) of $70,000 or the annual market salary rate, whichever is higher.
The new threshold commencement date coincides with the implementation of the Fair Work Commission’s 2023 annual wage review which determined a 5.75 per cent increase in all Modern Award Wages, including those used in the ECEC sector.
For more information about employing or sponsoring a migrant, see the Department of Home Affairs website.
