Urgent recall for popular Montessori toys over suffocation concerns
Two popular nursery toys from Trapz and Co have been recalled by Product Safety Australia over fears they could pose a suffocation risk for young children.
The Montessori Rattle Set and Wooden Crochet 3 piece set are not compliant with the mandatory size and shape requirements for children’s toys in the age group for which they are intended (children under three years of age) and present a potential choking or suffocation hazard.

The Montessori Rattle Set was sold nationally in stores and online for over a year (from 21 September 2020 to 6 October 2021), while the Wooden Crochet 3-Piece Set was available for just over two months (28 June 2021 to 6 October 2021).

Early childhood education and care (ECEC) services should check recent purchases to ensure they are not affected by the recall, and any services who own either of the rattles should remove them from the learning environment immediately and contact Trapz and Co for a refund.
The rattles, if found, should be disposed of immediately, with customers warned they will be asked to provide proof that they have been disposed of/destroyed.
Recall notices are available on the Product Safety website, here.
