Recall of milk products – Victorian and NSW ECEC services potentially affected

by Freya Lucas

June 14, 2019

Product safety recalls have been issued for selected one litre milk products sold recently in Victoria and New South Wales. Early childhood education and care (ECEC) services who have purchased these products recently through Woolworths, Coles, IGA and other retailers have been asked to check their milk stocks and ensure they do not have any of the affected products available for consumption.

The milk supplier, Lactalis Australia Pty Ltd, announced yesterday that it has recalled the following milk products:

  • Coles Full Cream Milk 1L Bottle (use by date: 25 and 26 June 2019)

  • Coles Low Fat Milk 1L Bottle (use by date: 25 and 26 June 2019)

  • Coles Skim Milk 1L Bottle (use by date: 25 June 2019)

  • Pauls Full Cream Milk 1L Bottle (use by date: 26 and 27 June 2019)

  • Pauls Smarter White Milk 1L Bottle (use by date: 25, 26 and 27 June 2019)

  • REV 1L Bottle (use by date: 28 June 2019)

  • PhysiCAL Low Fat 1L Bottle (use by date: 26 June 2019)

  • PhysiCAL Skim 1L Bottle (use by date: 27 June 2019)

It has been identified that these products may contain an amount of food grade dairy cleaning solution. The milk products may have a yellowish colouring and/or metallic chemical taste. This is a food safety issue and anyone concerned about their health should seek medical advice.

Consumers with the affected products should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Anyone with questions about the recall should  get in touch with the Lactalis customer service team on 1800 676 961.

Lactalis Australia apologised for any inconvenience caused, saying they have identified the source of the contamination and taken the necessary steps to address it and prevent any recurrence of this problem in the future.

A spokesperson for the organisation said that the food safety recall is being undertaken by Lactalis Australia to ensure the safety of consumers as part of an ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest possible standards of safety and product quality at all times.

Coles issued a statement in relation to the recall, informing consumers that the Coles branded products as outlined above have been sold Coles Supermarkets and Coles Local in Victoria, as well as Coles supermarkets in Lavington, Deniliquin and Albury in New South Wales and via Coles Online servicing these areas.
