Emerging early childhood education and care professionals who wish to undertake study while living in regional Australia can apply for up to $15,000 of funding to support under the Destination Australia Program

The program will provide more opportunities for domestic and international students to study in regional areas in 2023, with applications for the latest round opening on May 26 2022.

Minister for Regionalisation, Regional Communications and Regional Education Senator the Hon Bridget McKenzie described the Program as a great way to encourage more students to take up opportunities to study in regional Australia. With the opening of international borders increasing numbers of international students are expected to return to Australia throughout the year.

Since the program began in 2020 more than 1,800 students have received a scholarship, driving more than $76 million into regional economies. The current round of funding will support over 450 students to pursue study in a regional area.

“Because of this program, more students – both domestic and international – are getting the chance to experience the academic, cultural and lifestyle benefits of living and studying on a regional campus,” the Minister said.

“These regional communities will also benefit significantly from having more students living, working, and studying in their locations  – so it is a win-win,” she added.

The scholarships are valued at up to $15,000 per student per year, for up to four years, and will be available to students undertaking studies ranging from a Certificate IV through to a PhD.

Students commencing regional studies in 2023 will be able to apply for Destination Australia scholarships with the successful tertiary education providers by the end of 2022.
