George’s River Childcare Centres fight back against graffiti

Rather than complain about the presence of graffiti in their community, young children from  Georges River Council’s Childcare Centres have taken up their paint brushes in a bid to “be the change” they wish to see in the world, by painting a colourful mural. 

The children’s efforts were part of a broader movement by the children of the community, with representatives from Blakehurst Public School, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, and Georges River Council’s Childcare Centres all working together to create a mural to cover a graffiti hotspot in Carss Bush Park.

The final product was revealed on Graffiti Removal Day (27 October), local news source St George and Sutherland Shire Leader reported. 

The mural was designed by Georges River Council employee Matthew Bramston, and has been praised by Mayor Kevin Greene, who said he was delighted by the community support for the initiative, which has involved more than 500 local children. 

“The new mural is certainly a colourful addition to Carss Bush Park and is sure to brighten many people’s days for years to come,” the mayor said.

As well as the mural, children and volunteers from the Georges River area attended the event to plant vegetation to ‘green up’ the amenities block.
