Kempsey In Home Care thrown a lifeline through CCCF provision
The future of an in home care service, run in the rural New South Wales community of Kempsey, has been secured through an injection of funding from the Federal Government’s Community Child Care Fund (CCCF), local paper, The Macleay Argus has reported.
A change in funding models left the service in danger of closure, with funding for the service no longer available from the NSW state Government. Without access to flexible care options, shift workers in the town would have been left without a subsidised child care option.
Single parent Belinda Ison told The Argus that without the In Home Care service, she would not have been able to continue her night shift role, which allowed her to then be with her young children during the day, and take them to after school activities.
The In Home Care model in the town is designed to offer subsidised care to shift workers, casual workers, families with children with chronic health conditions, or those who have carer responsibilities for other relatives.
Speaking with The Argus, local MP Pat Conaghan said he was delighted by the provision of funds, amounting to $109,284 for the next two years.
“The CCCF is part of our Government’s Child Care Safety Net, which aims to give the most vulnerable children a strong start, while supporting parents into work.”
Nyree Simpson, Manager of Kempsey Family Day Care, who administer the scheme, told The Argus that the funding would allow the provider to give “vital support to vulnerable families for the next two years.”
As a result of the surety provided by the funding, Ms Simpson highlighted that more In Home Care educators would be recruited.
