PeakCare appoints Estelle Abela as interim CEO

PeakCare Queensland has appointed Estelle Abela as Interim Chief Executive Officer, effective 29 January 2026. PeakCare said Ms Abela brings senior leadership experience across the child and family services sector and will provide continuity and executive oversight during a significant period for the organisation and the broader sector.

Ms Abela steps into the role at a pivotal time for PeakCare and the broader child and family services sector, with her appointment set to provide continuity, executive oversight and steady leadership through a period of significant change.

PeakCare described Ms Abela as a values-led leader with deep experience in executive and strategic roles across the sector, including with OzChild, The Benevolent Society and Anglicare SA. Her appointment follows a period of senior leadership within PeakCare itself, most recently overseeing the organisation’s engagement with the Child Safety Commission of Inquiry.

PeakCare Board noted Ms Abela’s strong track record of collaborative leadership, particularly in times of complexity and transition. Her capacity to support practitioners and organisations through reform environments was identified as a key strength.

“The Board is confident that Ms Abela’s leadership will maintain PeakCare’s strong position as an independent and trusted voice for children, young people, families and the services that support them,” the statement said.

Ms Abela’s appointment comes at a time of heightened sector reform and continued focus on strengthening systems that uphold the rights and safety of children and families. Her leadership is expected to play a critical role in shaping PeakCare’s strategic advocacy during this period.
