Canberra consult gives input into foundational EYLF document

Parents, educators, politicians and educational experts met in Canberra last Friday to provide their input into a national review of Australia’s education goals, as contained in a foundational document of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), the Melbourne Declaration. 

Endorsed by all education ministers in 2008, the Melbourne Declaration has strong alignment with the EYLF, with the goals of the declaration being mirrored in the outcomes of the EYLF, and an intention of improving equity and excellence for all Australian learners.

Federal Minister for Education Dan Tehan hosted the consultation session to hear the views of education stakeholders about updating the Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians.

Mr Tehan thanked the participants for their thoughtful contributions to improving educational outcomes for every Australian.

“Today I heard from people who are passionate about education – from early learning and child care to higher education,” Mr Tehan said.

“One of the key points highlighted today was the need to focus on life-long learning in Australia. Education begins in early childhood and school and can continue to acquiring technical skills once in the workforce.”

 

He acknowledged the importance of collaboration, outlining the Government’s commitment to working with the broader education sector and the community to develop a vision for the future of education in Australia.

Ten consultations have already been held around Australia, including Tennant Creek, Adelaide and Cabramatta, and more than 150 written submissions have been received from stakeholders.
