ECEC Provider in Focus: My Cubby House Early Learning

My Cubby House is a family owned long day care service in the Gold Coast suburb of Southport. 

The service has 150 licenced places, and was last assessed as Exceeding the National Quality Standard in November 2017. 

What is the history of My Cubby House? 

Provider approval was granted in July 2016. 

What is the My Cubby House vision and approach to learning? 

Aside from the Early Years Learning Framework, the service draws on a number of theoretical approaches and disciplines to outline the work done with children and families, including: 

• The Abecedarian Approach 
• Circle of Security 
• Loose parts play 

Favouring play based learning, the service also has a Reconciliation Action Plan which governs its approach to working with the broader community in pursuit of a reconciled Australia, as well as a focus on sustainability. 

Are there any unique aspects to the My Cubby House offer? 

Centre Manager Catherine Morato has over 20 years of experience in the early childhood sector, and is a university trained early childhood teacher, who also holds an Advanced Diploma in Leadership and Management. 

Ms Morato is currently completing her Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and has held various roles within the sector including teaching, Centre Director, Operations Manager, University Advisor, and Centre Manager.

What is the My Cubby House approach to educator professional development? 

Ms Morato believes that educators’ professional development and growth is integral to the success not only of their own professional lives, but the life of the service as a whole. 

As such, she believes in providing Educators regular professional development to ensure that learning programs, theories and early childhood philosophies reflect new and contemporary practices that enrich children’s learning and development.
