Miss Pam celebrates her 30th workiversary at Milestones Jimboomba
Educator Miss Pam recently celebrated a very special milestone in her early childhood education and care (ECEC) career, having begun working in the sector in 1984.
A Jimboomba resident for 36 years, Miss Pam recently celebrated her 30th ‘workiversary’ at Milestones Early Learning Jimboomba.
“I began my employment in 1984 when our friends Mr and Mrs Bird offered me the opportunity to work for them as they built the first childcare centre in Jimboomba,” she explained.
“I studied at TAFE and completed my Diploma and then my Advanced Diploma in Child Services. I knew a career in Early Education and childcare would align with my family life and allow me to blend my passion for children and education while helping to guide the next generation.”
She loves working in ECEC so much that she has remained in the position up to her retirement age.
“It feels as though 30 years has gone by fast, perhaps because each day and every child is unique,” Miss Pam said.
“This has allowed me to build meaningful, lasting relationships, and one of my greatest joys is seeing former students of mine bring their children back to me to care for.”
Some of the core principles which she has held to heart in her career are self-help skills, manners, sustainability practices and the arts.
“I truly believe educators should treat the children in their care as our own – with gentleness, respect, sensitivity, compassion, and patience,” she said.
Having open communication, thoughtful and genuine conversations, and sharing of knowledge and information with team members, Miss Pam continued, helps to bring out the best in each other and the families they serve, which in turn benefits the children and wider community.
Being part of a supportive team makes any obstacles surmountable, Miss Pam continued.
“The greatest reward is seeing the children develop new skills, gain confidence and learn and grow under your guidance. Nothing provides more professional fulfillment,” she said.
