TAFE Queensland student Lisa benefits from Fee-Free TAFE funding

For TAFE Queensland student Lisa, working with children and helping them to thrive has always been a passion.
Holding a Certificate III in Education Support (CHC30221), Lisa was already working with children and content, but after becoming a mother during COVID-19 lockdowns she realised the inquisitive nature of younger children and learning through play was where her focus needed to be.
During 2023, Lisa was lucky enough to access Fee-Free TAFE funding to cover the cost of achieving her new career goal, and is now completing a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30121), and hopes to one day be able to care and influence the learning of young children as a family day care provider.
“I am an independent parent so Fee-Free TAFE has been such a help,” Lisa said.
“It’s given me a lot of confidence in terms of what I can achieve, without the burden and stress of trying to factor the cost of study into my budget.”
Fee-Free TAFE funding is part of the Queensland Government’s Good People. Good jobs: Queensland Workforce Strategy 2022–2032.
It aims to connect, educate and attract the people needed to meet the state’s workforce demand in existing and new sectors to support continued economic growth.
With approximately 37,000 Fee-Free TAFE and vocational education and training places available in 2023, the program will support Queenslanders to skill up to meet the state’s current and future workforce needs by enabling them to complete selected qualifications at no or low cost.
Lisa has encouraged others to access the Fee-Free funding to achieve their own study and career goals as soon as possible.
“Life changes can be good and it’s never too late to change your career,” Lisa said.
“The TAFE Queensland teachers are so supportive and they will do everything to ensure that you achieve your goals. It really has been a great experience.”
