Andrews and Tierney visit ECEC students at Holmesglen to celebrate Free TAFE

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has visited early childhood education students at Glen Waverley’s Holmesglen Institute to acknowledge and celebrate the impact that Free TAFE is having on the Victorian workforce. 

Joined by Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney, the Premier used the visit to reflect on the impact of Free TAFE thus far, and to note his Government’s commitment to the initiative, as shown in the recent Budget, which allocated more than $545 million to TAFE.

“This year’s Budget is delivering certainty for the training sector, opportunities for Victorians seeking new careers, and stability for our growing industries that need skilled workers,” the Premier said. 

Ms Tierney agreed, adding: “Great early childhood education starts with highly skilled early childhood professionals – and with free TAFE, we’re making it easier for people across the state to take up a career in this rewarding sector.”

Early childhood has been a popular choice in the Free TAFE initiative since it began in 2019, with 137,000 students participating, saving nearly $340 million in course fees.
