Community Kids Mount Gambier given flags by local MP

Federal Member for Barker, Tony Pasin MP, has gifted the Aboriginal, Australian and Torres Strait Islander flags to Community Kids Mount Gambier, in honour of the service’s commitment to reconciliation.
Mr Pasin’s visit and gift aligns with the service’s recently published Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and coincides with National Reconciliation Week, held 27 May to 3 June. Ella McIntyre, Centre Manager of Community Kids Mount Gambier, explained that the arrival of the flags is a significant milestone in the centre’s ongoing reconciliation journey.
“We are committed to creating an environment that is inclusive and culturally safe for all of our children, families and team,” she said.
“The flags will be displayed in our foyer alongside a copy of our written acknowledgement of Country and artwork by local artist Bianka Carson to show our recognition and thanks to the Traditional Custodians of the land on which our centre operates.”
“As early childhood educators we have the honour of educating children about the shared histories, diverse cultures and varying perspectives in our communities as a key step in creating greater inclusion for everyone.”
Mr Pasin congratulated the service on its proactive approach to a reconciled Australia, saying “displaying the three flags together is an important symbol of our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and will encourage the children to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia to unite and not divide us”.
“I congratulate Community Kids Mount Gambier on this great National Reconciliation Week initiative.”
Children at the service will be attending a number of local events to support community connection during National Reconciliation Week.
