Goodstart Shailer Park raises funds for cancer research with Biggest Morning Tea

Goodstart Early Learning Shailer Park has participated in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea with more than 20 local community members coming together earlier this week to help raise funds for cancer research, support and prevention.
Children and educators at the service have participated in the fundraising event for the past 10 years, with the cause being close to their hearts after cancer has affected many in the wider service community, as well as family and friends of the Shailer Park team.
Director Kristy Morgan said the morning tea was always an exciting and important opportunity for the centre and local community to come together.
“Over the years our morning tea has become a much-anticipated event – bringing together more and more members of our early learning community to share a cuppa, have a yarn, and raise funds that we know will make a big difference for those impacted by cancer.”
The service is aiming for a lofty target in 2023 of at least $1,000, which will pay for an analysis of two gene samples for a research project.
“Our Biggest Morning Tea is only made possible because of our incredible educators and teachers who don an apron for the cause, and children who add their special touch by participating in art and craft to help decorate our morning tea,” Kristy said.
“At the end of the day, this initiative is about bringing us closer to a cancer-free future – and when I think about children who are in our early learning centre – they are the very ones set to benefit from the work being done today to fund research, support and prevention.”
Goodstart Shailer Park is one of over 500,000 hosts that get behind Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea each year – a community event that raises vital funds to make a big difference for those impacted by cancer. Learn more about the Cancer Council here.
