My Dreaming, My Future – National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day
National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day (Children’s Day) will be held August 4 2022, offering early childhood education and care (ECEC) services the opportunity to recognise and celebrate First Nations children.
Since 1988, 4 August was chosen to communally celebrate the birthdays of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people taken from their families at a young age – the Stolen Generations.
Children’s Day is a chance for all Australians to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories, language and the rich cultures of all First Nations Australians. To celebrate Children’s Day, events and celebrations take place across the country from 4 August in early years services, schools, communities, as well as online and at home.
For Children’s Day in 2022, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are being asked to reflect on what Dreaming means to them, so that others may learn how they interpret this in their lives and identity, and hear what their aspirations are for the future.
