Work begins on new early childhood building in WA at Mount Helena Primary School

A major $2 million upgrade to Mount Helena Primary School is underway, which will see a new early childhood block open at the school in 2022, to cater for the growing local area.

As well as supporting local jobs during the construction period, the work will see the school gain two new early childhood classrooms to accommodate 46 children, toilets, a kitchen, and additional storage facilities.

West Australian Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery was at the school late last week to turn the first sod, sharing her excitement about the learning opportunities for kindergarten and pre-primary students which will arise from the build.

The facility has been designed by Christou Architects, with Devlyn Construction to carry out the works, which are expected to be completed in February 2022. Funding for the project has come from the WA Recovery Plan, which is investing $492.2 million for upgrades and refurbishments at public schools around Western Australia.
