Mornington Peninsula Council opts out of FDC provision citing decline in service use

The Mornington Peninsula Shire Council will transition out of providing family day care (FDC) on the Mornington Peninsula and in the Frankston area following what it termed “a steady decline” in the use of its FDC services over the past five years.
The Council attributes the decline to an increase in the number of alternate FDC providers in the market.
“We are confident these services will provide a varied choice for all educators when selecting a new provider to transfer to, with little to no disruption to them or the families and the children they care for,” a spokesperson said.
All families and educators impacted by the change have been notified, with the Council committing to supporting all educators to find a preferred provider to ensure a smooth transition for themselves and their families over a period of 12 weeks.
The two Children’s Services Officers employed by the Council and impacted by the changes will be supported by the Council as it seeks to redeploy them.
