Preschoolers honour the service of Australian troops through care packages

Children from Havilah Road Preschool have thanked Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel for their service through the creation of ANZAC Day care packages. 

The children prepared 20 packs filled with much-needed items, special treats and pictures they had drawn to brighten spirits for serving ADF members in Iraq, Egypt, Israel and South Sudan.

“We do these nice packages twice a year, for Anzac Day and for Christmas Day,” coordinator Casie Kennedy told local publication Bendigo Advertiser.

The packages are filled with donations from the local community, along with the children’s artwork, and letters. 

“We usually get letters back which is really nice for the kids to see,” she added. 

When compiling the gifts, educators sit with the children, who pack each box, while educators use a globe to show them where their packages are going. 

“I feel like it’s important for the kids to be involved in programs like this so they can see what is going on in the world,” Ms Kennedy said.
