Nominations for the 2021 Victorian Training Awards (VTA) are now open, giving an opportunity for the outstanding efforts of Victorian apprentices, students, teachers, employers and training providers to be recognised.

Now in its 67th year, the VTA brings together the Higher Education and Skills Sector to share in celebrating a high-quality training system that meets the needs of all Victorians.

15 general award categories are available within the Awards structure, including individual categories, employer categories, an industry collaboration award, and training provider categories.

Each winner will receive $5,000 in prize money at a gala ceremony to be held in September. The early childhood education and care (ECEC) sector has been underrepresented in the Awards in previous years, with 2016 being the last time a recipient from the sector was included.

In 2016 Bubup Wilam, an Aboriginal-managed and controlled organisation providing education and care for Aboriginal children aged birth to six years was awarded the Medium Employer Of The Year award in recognition of the training program provided for staff with specific focus on building the education, training and employment capacity of Aboriginal people.

Work to establish Bubup Wilam began in 2007 and saw the first intake of children in 2012 “and has since exceeded its own expectations.”

“They identified that a training program was needed that believed in the ability of Aboriginal people, and was designed to give them every chance of success,” judges noted.

Nominations for the 2021 Victorian Training Awards can be made on the VTA website. Those requiring additional support to complete their applications can access assistance through the website, and the how to nominate web page.

The awards are supported by 2019-2021 Principal Partner, the Apprenticeship Employment Network, and the Global Apprenticeship Network.

Nominations close Friday 4 June.
