Epilepsy WA gives Goodstart Ocean Reef the epilepsy smart nod

Epilepsy WA has recognised Goodstart Early Learning Ocean Reef as being ‘epilepsy smart’ after the staff and parents of the centre upskilled learning more about how to conduct beyond seizure first aid.
The provider attended the service to present the Ocean Reef team with an Epilepsy Smart certificate, supporting them to join a growing number of schools, education support and childcare centres taking up training through the Epilepsy Smart Schools Program.
“Any childcare centre or school with children diagnosed with epilepsy is encouraged to undertake training with Epilepsy WA in epilepsy awareness and management to ensure best duty of care for school-aged and pre-school children,” Epilepsy WA chief executive Emma Buitendag told local publication Perth Now.
To further support the work of Epilepsy WA, the centre recently held a Purple Day fundraiser, selling cupcakes and merchandise to raise $330 to help Epilepsy WA maintain support services for people with epilepsy.
Perth’s annual Purple Walk 4 Epilepsy WA on March 28 will raise funds for epilepsy support services, and services or individuals are invited to register for the walk by visiting epilepsywa.asn.au.
