WA Premier opens new early childhood centre in Albany
West Australian Premier Mark McGowan officially opened a new early childhood centre at Flinders Park Primary School in Albany earlier this week. The purpose built facility was designed with specialist learning areas, catering for a play-based learning approach.
The $2.5 million build has embedded technology features such as access to wireless devices and interactive touch screens along with more traditional features such as shaded outdoor areas and soft-fall flooring, as well as being energy efficient with a variety of self-monitoring heating, cooling and light-sensing technology.
Mr McGowan said he was proud to open the facilities, and that he was sure they would be enjoyed by staff, families and children.
While in Albany, the Premier has also announced the next steps for a major redevelopment for Mount Lockyer Primary School, with the forward works awarded to Albany-based contractor AD Contractors Pty Ltd. The construction tender will be released later in the year.
West Australian Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery said she was confident that the staff, facilities, technology and equipment in the new centre will give students at Flinders Park Primary School the very best start, while local member Peter Watson noted the importance of the build, which was an election promise and “a huge win” for local families.
