Fee bargains driving more students to TAFE in Western Australia
Early data centred on the impact of a 50 per cent reduction in TAFE fees in Western Australia shows that the decision is having positive results, with a 20 per cent increase in student enrolments.
Importantly for the early childhood education and care (ECEC) sector, early childhood studies is one area with particularly strong results. A continued positive trend in this space may go some way to addressing workforce shortages and recruitment challenges in the state.
The ‘lower fees, local skills’ initiative is backed by a $53.5 million investment by the State Government, with 34 priority courses having now commenced, including Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, which is up by 191 students, or 40 per cent on 2019 enrolment numbers.
