QLD Child safety reform resources and training available for ECEC services
Early childhood education and care (ECEC) services are encouraged to explore new resources designed to support the implementation of strengthened child safety laws across all states and territories.
The Early Childhood Legislation Amendment (Child Safety) Act 2025, passed by the Victorian Parliament on behalf of all jurisdictions, introduces significant changes to improve safeguards for children in education and care settings. Most legislative changes will take effect from early 2026.
To support a smooth transition, the Queensland Early Childhood Education and Care Department is providing regular updates, practical tools, and learning opportunities to help services prepare.
Approved providers, service leaders and educators can access a series of recorded webinar sessions covering key areas of the reforms. These sessions provide vital information on:
- Responsibilities under the new laws
- Managing inappropriate conduct
- Implementing device restrictions
- Understanding mandatory child safety training
- Supporting children through protective behaviours and behaviour guidance
These sessions are particularly useful for those who were unable to attend the live webinars and are looking to strengthen internal understanding of the reforms.
In partnership with the National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (NAPCAN) and Autism Queensland, Queensland early childhood educators can access free protective behaviours and behaviour guidance training. The initiative includes intensive face-to-face coaching to support implementation of child-safe practices within services.
This targeted support recognises the critical role educators play in building child-safe environments and responding appropriately to children’s needs and behaviours.
Services are encouraged to subscribe to the department’s A-to-Z newsletter for regular updates and further guidance as the sector prepares for the upcoming changes.
