Change table secures Worksafe Award for Genesis Safety

Genesis Safety has won a major award at the WorkSafe Awards held in Melbourne on Thursday 27 February for its award winning innovation, the ‘Raise and Lower Change Table.’
The change table is revolutionising early childhood education and care (ECEC) workplace safety by significantly reducing muscular and skeletal injuries associated with lifting demands when changing nappies in ECEC settings.
Genesis Safety is led by Jennifer Kearney, an approved provider and centre owner who developed the idea for the table after recognising the need to better protect her staff from workplace injuries.
To bring the concept to life, she collaborated with Ballarat based engineering and manufacturing company Deutscher Healthcare, known for their high quality electrically- operated healthcare beds.
The family owned and operated “Deutscher Company” has been a cornerstone of regional Victoria’s manufacturing industry for over 120 years.
Designed and manufactured in Victoria to Australian Safety Standards the ‘Raise and Lower Change Table’ uses electric motors that allow it to be adjusted from floor level to a range of standing heights, accommodating different operators.
The table only requires a standard power outlet to use and is fully portable, allowing it to be moved from room to room within a centre. It also doesn’t affect current floorspace usage and ‘Licensed Place Capacity’ of the centre in the same way fixed change tables/stations would.
Not only does this innovation enhance workplace safety, but it has proven to be a hit with children. According to Genesis Safety’s in-centre testing, children enjoy the smooth ride, turning what could be a challenging task into a more manageable, time saving and even enjoyable experience for the staff.
The win was all the more significant given some of the competitors in the category which included strong contenders such as Ambulance Victoria.
