Kinder Kits kickstart education for Victoria’s youngest citizens

70,000 young Victorians have had a welcoming start to their education journey, receiving a popular – and free – Kinder Kit from the Victorian Government.
Each child starting three-year-old kindergarten has been given a Kinder Kit full of books, toys and stationery to help them get the best start in life.
Minister for Children Lizzie Blandthorn recently visited Early Learning Victoria Muyan, where she unveiled the 2025 Kinder Kits, designed to help families to participate in engaging activities that set children up for a lifetime of learning.
Early Learning Victoria Muyan is one of four Victorian government-owned and operated early learning centres to open this year – offering long day care as well as three and four-year-old kindergarten programs -including Free Kinder. The centres are low fee, making early learning more affordable and helping parents to return to work or study..
When children and families open their kits, they can get creative with playdough, draw with crayons, play with stacking blocks, plant alfalfa seeds and practice reading with stories from Australian authors.
This year’s Kinder Kits double as a backpack which can be opened into a felt playing surface for imaginative play. Other fun, educational items for kids include timber story rollers, a colouring book, a jumping frog game, a card game exploring maths concepts, and felt stickers that can be used to create stories on the backpack’s lining.
Since 2022, the Labor Government has given 227,000 families Kinder Kits. Every item in the kits is recommended by education experts to support learning through play.
More than 50 Victorian businesses have contributed to the kits since 2022 – with products made, designed or printed in Victoria, books written by a Victorian author, or products produced by a Victorian business.
