ECEC Provider in Focus – Carey Bay Preschool
The Exceeding rated Carey Bay Preschool is a not for profit community preschool that educates and cares for children from three years of age and school age (five to six years).
The preschool is part of Macquarie Preschools Co-operative with another centre at Blackalls Park, New South Wales.
The service is open from 8:15am – 3:45pm, Monday through Friday, and is closed during school and public holidays.
What is the history of Carey Bay Preschool?
Macquarie Preschools was granted approval in September 2009, the year when both services under the provider opened.
What is the Carey Bay Preschool vision and approach to learning?
Carey Bay Preschool educators believe early learning is significant as it lays the foundation for life long learning. They aim to provide a high quality educational program in a warm and friendly environment with experiences that stimulate curiosity, challenge children to solve problems and encourage them to make choices in their play.
The service follows a child centred curriculum that follows the ideas, thoughts and skills of the children. The content of the preschool curriculum is developed in response to the daily observations of the children’s ideas, knowledge and play. Based on this information, educators program new experiences and / or add resources to extend their ideas and further all areas of their development.
Given that for many children preschool is their first experience in a formal school setting, educators aim for children to develop self confidence with the knowledge that they are capable, strong and full of knowledge.
The preschool program ensures children are confident to embark on the next step in their formal learning as they progress to Kindergarten.
Incursions and excursions are seen as important tools to enhance the educational outcomes for the children.
Are there any unique aspects to the Carey Bay Preschool offering?
The service offers a number of visiting programs, such as living safely with dogs and The Reptile Man, as well as excursions to local schools, Toronto Library, a nursing home and other community activities.
