Glugor Young Parents Program celebrates 20th anniversary with Family Fun Day
The Glugor Young Parents Program celebrated 20 years of supporting young parents and their children with a family fun day, held in late October in Deception Bay, a coastal suburb in the City of Moreton Bay, Queensland.
Starting in 1996, the Glugor Young Parents Program has provided holistic, accessible, responsive, flexible, targeted and individualised support to parents of all genders up to the age of 25 years, and their children from birth to five years of age.
Glugor House was born in Kingston following a donation from the Barton family to yourtown (then Boystown) with a mission to provide families the support they need to grow in a safe and supportive environment.
The program is child-centred and family focused in its approach, which is aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), and is an evidenced-informed prevention and early intervention service which provides parenting and child development workshops, adjunct care on site, case management and advocacy support for young parents.
The program delivers parenting programs such as Circle of Security, Tuning into Kids and more recently empowering parents to understand their rights through The Shark Cage Program.
Held during Children’s Week, the free event included activities, a barbecue, petting zoo, community stalls and more, with funds from the Barton Family again supporting.
Past and present families who utilised the service, along with members of the community, partners, and special guests attended the event, where a Welcome to Country was performed by Undumbi Culture and students from Redcliffe State High School.
