Perth’s Metro Inner Development Assessment Panel (MIDAP) has approved plans for a $2 million early childhood education and care (ECEC) service in the Perth suburb of Morley with a unanimous vote local news source Perth Now reports

Owned by Imak Development and D & B Investment Plan the $2 million service will be within walking distance of Galleria shopping centre, Bayswater Waves aquatic centre and the new Metronet station in Morley.

The property will be located at 165 and 167 Broun Avenue, Morley, and will operate six days per week (from Monday through Saturday) educating and caring for up to 82 children.

The proposed development was first put to the City of Bayswater’s Design Review Panel in January 2024 but has since been updated to include amendments to the centre’s layout, built form, access, landscaping and acoustic impacts, Perth Now noted

While there can be challenging aspects of melding commercial ECEC development with suburban communities, MIDAP deputy presiding member Ian Birch said, the development represents “a very, very good proposal.”

“The childcare centre aligns with the wider vision of the Morley Precinct Area … by providing an important service to the community that is much needed with the intensification of residential development,” Urbanista director Daniella Mrdja said.

“Overall this area is considered as an area in transition and the balance between respecting the existing character area and considering the desired future outcome is achieved.”
