Garden grants on offer from the team at Life Ed and Bakers Delight
Bakers Delight has teamed up with Life Ed, and its iconic mascot Healthy Harold the giraffe to give early childhood education and care (ECEC) services, preschools and primary schools the chance to share in $25,000 worth of garden grants as part of the new Growing Good Grains Grants (GGGG) program.
The GGGG program aims to encourage “fresh thinking to sprout healthy habits – in and beyond the classroom,” Life Ed CEO Russell D’Costa explained.
To apply for the grants, services need to head to the online portal and share their vision for a garden for the chance to win one of 25 grants, valued at $1,000 each.
Services and schools will also be provided with free resources to boost their applications and to empower children to learn more about the origins of food as they plan their garden with their learning community.
“We have been partnering with learning communities to deliver preventative health education for 45 years now,” Mr D’Costa said, “and what continues to be clear is the importance of memorable, immersive experiences to embed learning. It’s because children learn by doing and that is what GGGG is all about, encouraging kids to dig into the facts as they work together to create a healthy food garden that their whole learning community can benefit from.”
The first 50 submissions will receive a $100 Bakers Delight e- gift card!
To provide inspiration and support throughout the four week campaign, which runs from 3 to 29 June, free resources are available.
From taking a journey through the life cycle of bread, through to growing their own wheat and making their own fresh dough, Life Ed and Bakers Delight’s Healthy Solutions range have created a variety of hands-on activities and easy lesson plans that can be tailored according to the needs of children.
“Understanding where our food comes from is an incredibly important part of the way we educate our kids on how to make healthy eating choices, so we and our network of franchisees around the country, are delighted to be partnering with Life Ed on this important grants program,” Elise Gillespie, Bakers Delight Joint CEO said.
“The journey that a single seed of wheat goes through before it winds up in a delicious sandwich is a fascinating one and we can’t wait to start educating kids on where their ingredients come from today, so we can help them have a happier and healthier tomorrow.”
