Like in any workplace, early childhood education (ECE) leadership and managers will face issues of staff performance that can be difficult to navigate. The Early Learning Association Australia (ELAA) has compiled the Managing Performance Related Concerns Resource (MPRC) to support managers to get the most out of these conversations with staff.
The MPRC was developed by ELAA in collaboration with the Victorian Department of Education to provide ‘timely and effective’ resolutions to benefit both the employee and employer.
This resource works in conjunction with the Employee Management and Development Resource which uses preventative measures to establish positive performance in the first instance.
The MPRC includes eight tools designed to streamline the process of addressing performance concerns, covering topics including:
- Understanding employee employee management in Early Childhood
- Approaches to managing underperformance
- Approaches to managing misconduct
- Termination of employment
If you are dealing with instances of underperformance or misconduct or want to build your toolkit for managing an ECEC team, you can access the MPRC resource here.
Additionally, ELAA has developed the Learning Brought to Life platform with self-paced videos to provide valuable insights into:
- Developing and sustaining high-performing teams
- Building leadership awareness
- Employee management in a crisis
In the ECEC sector, performance management can significantly impact the learning environment for children. Being equipped with appropriate tools and resources will benefit both the team and the children in their everyday experiences at the service.
