ACT Government to build ECEC service and preschool in Whitlam

A new public school in the ACT suburb of Whitlam will educate and care for children from six weeks of age to the end of their primary school years, accommodating up to 780 preschool to year 6 students and an additional 130 children in the early childhood education and care (ECEC) centre.

 

Expected to open for the 2026 school year, the school is part of the ACT Government’s commitment to meet enrolment growth and cater for the new residential suburb of Whitlam, backed by $76.8 million in ACT Government funding. 

 

The school will be positioned adjacent to John Gorton Drive on the corner of Hazel Hawke Avenue and Alice Moyle Way, and will provide convenient access to the local neighbourhood by nearby public transport stops, bike paths and footpaths.

 

The new school will also sit alongside the local shops and be in the heart of the new suburb and community.

 

“Lodging the development application for the new school in Whitlam is an exciting milestone,” Minister for Education and Youth Affairs Yvette Berry said.

 

“As the suburb of Whitlam continues to grow, I know locals are excited about the opening of a new public primary school and early childhood education and care centre for the Molonglo Valley.”
