January 26, 2024

Approved providers servicing the Western Australian market have been advised of recent updates to the Education and Care Services National Regulations 2012 (Western Australia).

Further amendments have been made to Western Australia’s Education and Care Services National Regulations 2012 and these came into effect on 1 December 2023. They came from the 2019 NQF Review and mirror changes that took effect in other states and territories in 2023.

National changes now apply to WA also

A summary of key changes that occurred in 2023 is available on the ACECQA website through the NQF Changes Overview, along with related guidance and support resources.

Changes that commenced nationally in July and October 2023 are now also largely in effect in Western Australia, however, some exceptions or variations may apply.

The regulatory authority in Western Australia (the Education and Care Regulatory Unit) has released an update to explain the amendments that have been made from 1 December 2023 in that jurisdiction, which you can access here.

Further information

The regulation amendments that commenced on and before 1 December in Western Australia have been consolidated into the Western Australia Education and Care Services National Regulations 2012.

Providers should refer to the latest version of the legislation and regulations for Western Australia to ensure they remain up-to-date on the current laws and regulations if they are an early education and care provider or service operating in Western Australia.  Further changes to the legislation and regulations for Western Australia will be forthcoming.

The Education and Care Regulatory Unit is responsible for monitoring compliance with the NQF. Services who have any enquiries about the regulations should contact the Education and Care Regulatory Unit within the Department of Communities
