Gyndarna Preschool celebrates 70 years of serving Dareton community
Gyndarna Preschool in the Far West New South Wales community of Dareton recently celebrated 70 years of serving children and families in the community with a birthday celebration.
Children sang, danced and played while families and community members caught up with one another and shared stories of their own time at the preschool.
For Director of Education Lateesha Hester, the party was a wonderful community event which really drew the service community together.
Gyndarna Indigenous Corporation Chief Executive Brady Matthews said making 70 years was an achievement worth celebrating.
“We are the only Aboriginal-controlled preschool in the Sunraysia district and I think that is a token to the work we’ve done because we’ve obviously done a good job,” he shared with local news source Sunraysia Daily.
“We’re on our third-generation enrolments now. We’ve had grandparents and then their children and now their grandchildren are coming through.”
Along with singing and dancing the celebrations included a smoking ceremony, a traditional dance performance, lived entertainment, and activities for the children.
A photo booth was available to capture the occasion, which featured a lunch from Enjoy Catering.
