Free Kindy in Queensland gets celebrity push with the involvement of The Wiggles
The Queensland Government has partnered with perennial favourite children’s performers, The Wiggles, to promote its Free Kindy initiative.
In a $135,000 campaign, The Wiggles will promote the message that Kindy is free for families to access from 1 January 2024, and to ensure they have all the information they need to enrol in Free Kindy from 2024.
Heading on tour in December, The Wiggles will reach over 33,000 families across the state in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, and Brisbane, as part of the Wiggly Big Day Out Tour.
The tour will see the Wiggles sharing the free kindy message with Queensland families, along with giveaway tickets and a chance for some lucky families to meet them backstage.
The Wiggles’ free kindy message will also be shared across social media and other digital platforms, encouraging families to search and find their nearest free kindy program.
“It’s absolutely fantastic to have The Wiggles supporting our free kindy program during a tour which will reach thousands of people,” said Queensland Education Minister Grace Grace.
“At each location there are tickets to give away to four families, with one lucky family at each concert getting the chance to meet the Wiggles in person backstage.”
The Free Kindy initiative is anticipated to provide cost-of-living relief to Queensland families of up to $4,600 a year, and to give an additional 50,000 families access to early childhood education in the year before Prep (the first year of Primary School) for 15 hours a week, 40 weeks a year.
Kindy is available to children aged four years old by 30 June in the year before they start Prep, and some five-year-olds who attend a government-approved kindergarten.
Families will benefit from free kindy if they go to a sessional kindergarten or kindergarten in a long day care service.
“We’re proud to partner with the Queensland Government to promote the important message that kindy is free for all families from 2024,” Blue Wiggle Anthony Field said.
“For over 30 years, The Wiggles have educated and entertained children and their families through music, song and dance, and we hope this partnership is a great way to connect with Queenslanders and encourage families to enrol in kindy.”
