Connect+ Brisbane

Early education and care online news platform The Sector hosted thirteen senior leaders from a range of early learning providers at its inaugural Connect+ event in Brisbane, Queensland last week.

The innovative new format seeks to capitalise on the growing demand for opportunities to understand more deeply key issues impacting the early childhood education and care (ECEC) sector and learn about topical new business developments, technologies and trends relevant to decision makers.

Connect+ Brisbane was held at Black Bird Restaurant in the Brisbane CBD with attendees including senior leaders from six of the ten largest long day care providers in Australia as well as a collection of regionally focused, and growing, smaller ECEC organisations.

“We were deeply humbled to have had such strong interest in our first Connect+ event,” Jason Roberts, CEO and Founder of The Sector said.

“Having been a senior leader at a large long day care provider in a previous role, I know just how important it is to occasionally step outside of the business day to day activities and mix with like minded professionals in an environment that not only fosters learning but also connections too.”

“Judging by the attendance, and feedback, particularly regarding our topic sponsor Daitum’s  presentation, I think we have hit the mark in this regard and we will look forward to hosting more Connect+ events in the future.”

AI experts Daitum joined Jason Roberts on the Brisbane Connect+ agenda

The Sector’s inaugural Connect+ event saw Mr Roberts joined on the agenda by Philipp Rohlfshagen, a renowned expert in narrow AI and Chief Executive Officer of Daitum, a leader in powerful prescriptive analytics algorithms including those used in rostering applications across the ECEC sector.

Mr Roberts kicked off the event with a short welcome followed by a ten minute presentation on three issues of importance to the ECEC sector namely; the implications of the ACCC’s second inquiry report recommendations, an update on the Fair Work Commission’’s enterprise bargaining application and outlook for centre supply to pick up in the medium term.

Following a short period of post presentation discussion, Mr Roberts invited Mr Rohlfshagen to take the floor and begin his presentation on Artificial Intelligence which not only provided a useful primer on the basics of the technology itself but also how its power is being harnessed to solve real life problems in multiple sectors, including ECEC.

“It was a tremendous privilege to be able to share insights and observations about this game changing technology with such an informed and engaged group of senior leaders,” Mr Rohlfshagen said.

“We were very encouraged by the interest in the subject and the broad consensus that emerged amongst the group in discussions after my presentation that AI can, and does, play a valuable role in supporting early organisations to achieve better business outcomes, and we at Daitum are in a strong position to support them.”

“We look forward to joining The Sector’s Connect+ team on similar events across the country going forward.”
