Here’s cheers to 50 years: Whittlesea Pre-School celebrates 50-year anniversary
Whittlesea Pre-School has celebrated its 50-year anniversary with an onsite celebration for current and past families, featuring a sausage sizzle, a devonshire tea, face painting and performances.
The preschool displayed old photographs of people who went to Whittlesea Pre-School, including when it first opened in 1971.
“We haven’t been able to get one from every single year, but we have got one from the first year and at least every couple of years, so we’ve got a good spread between the 50 years,” Whittlesea Pre-School Committee President Tiffany Tournier shared with local media source The North Central Review.
Ms Tournier said the preschool welcomed familiar faces from its community at the event, with many of the children currently at the preschool being the second or third generation to attend.
“The generations definitely come through and a lot of people don’t leave the area as well, so a lot of the locals you see around either went there or know someone that did,” she added.
The City of Whittlesea has provided a grant that will be used to purchase First Nations artwork and an Acknowledgment of Country plaque.
In honour of the occasion, the four-year-old kindergarten group has also created totem poles in partnership with Whittlesea Secondary College.
The celebration was held at the preschool (92 Church St Whittlesea) 9 September from 10 am – 2 pm.
