Education and care services will no longer be able to have bassinets in their services from 1 October 2023, information from ACECQA notes, including when families drop off or pick up their children.
The amendment to the regulations which prohibits bassinets has been published on the NSW Legislation website.
The ban applies to all states and territories bar Western Australia, which will also ban bassinets, but from a later date.
The measure has been introduced to ensure that every child educated or cared for is safe while attending an early childhood service, including during sleep and rest.
For more information, please see the sleep and rest for children policy and procedure guidelines, and the assessment and reassessment of residences and venues for FDC policy and procedure guidelines.
This information was first shared in ACECQA’s newsletter. To subscribe, please see here.
