muylatina Child and Family Learning Centre officially opens in Tasmania

The muylatina Child and Family Learning Centre at Mayfield in Tasmania has been officially opened by the Tasmanian Government, supporting families in Newnham, Mowbray, Invermay, Rocherlea, Mayfield and Lilydale.
Pronounced moy-lah-tee-nah, the service takes its name from the Tasmanian Aboriginal palawa kani word meaning ‘to embrace’, and is part of the Tasmanian Government’s $28 million commitment to build six new child and family learning centres across the state.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said muylatina gives local families with young children a place to build strong community connections while accessing a range of services and supports.
“Our Government is giving our youngest learners the very best start in life by providing access to important services such as playgroups, oral language development programs, parent workshops and early intervention support,” the Premier said.
“Through the child and family learning centres, we are delivering community-driven services such as child health and parenting, midwifery services, parenting support, psychology, speech pathology and social work which best meet the needs of local children and their families,” added the Minister for Education, Children and Youth Roger Jaensch.
“I congratulate the staff, families and members of the Local Enabling Group for their input and work into establishing muylatina as a space for everyone in the local community to share and enjoy.”
The opening of the muylatina centre means there are now 13 child and family learning centres across Tasmania. Each of the new centres have been co-designed through consultation with local communities.
