National Pyjama Day calls for ECEC support for the ‘snuggliest day of the year’

The Pyjama Foundation is calling for support from early childhood education and care (ECEC) services to help raise funds for its ‘most influential fundraiser.’

The Foundation supports children in foster care, including through its Love of Learning Program.

“When creating The Pyjama Foundation more than 19 years ago, I didn’t realise how big of an impact that it would have on children in care for the better” The Pyjama Foundation Founder and CEO, Bronwyn Sheehan OAM said.

“Many children in care experience trauma, neglect, and instability; impacting their confidence, their ability to trust others, and their core foundation for learning,” she continued. “75 per cent of children in care do not complete high school and 35 per cent will enter the juvenile justice system.”

National Pyjama Day is vital to the success of the Love of Learning Program which is offered to children in foster care – Australia’s lowest performing educational group.

“Our volunteer Pyjama Angels support children in building their learning, life skills and confidence to ultimately change the course of their lives,” Ms Sheehan explained.

Friday July 21st officially marks this year’s National Pyjama Day, and all Australians, including those working in and attending ECEC, to wear their favourite pair of ‘PJ’s’ to help The Pyjama Foundation raise much-needed awareness and funds for children in foster care.

Each year Ms Sheehan is proud to see the Australian community back the fundraiser to support so many vulnerable children “in the cosiest and most impactful way possible.”

“With less than one month to go, I am calling on all Australians to register and show support for the 48,000 children in care in Australia,” she said.

“Sign up today and get ready to rock your favourite PJs this July for children in care.”
