SA welcomes official opening of newest birth – Y12 school, Riverbanks College

Riverbanks College, a school for children from birth to the final year of high school, has been officially opened by South Australia’s Minister for Education, Training and Skills Blair Boyer to support population growth in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.

 

The new school in Angle Vale was first announced under the previous Labor Government with construction beginning in 2020, and supports children across their education lifespan with early learning and care provision, outside school hours care (OSHC), preschool, primary and secondary school, to assist with a smoother transition for each stage for students, along with an inclusive education unit.

 

Riverbanks will have a strong focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) studies to educate students for jobs of the future, with facilities such as a Virtual Reality (VR) lab and Design Technologies facilities. It also has a 300-seat performing arts centre, food hospitality centre and a contemporary library.

 

Expansive outdoor facilities, including soccer and hockey pitches, ovals and an indoor gym, provide lots of sporting options for students that will also be used by the local community outside of school hours.

 

Total enrolment is expected to grow to 1,675 students by 2026, with the college prepared for a capacity of 1,500 primary and secondary students, 100 inclusive places for students with a disability, and 75 places in the early learning centre.

 

“We identified the predicted growth of the northern suburbs a number of years ago while previously in government, so this has been an incredibly important project to support population growth and infrastructure, as well as complement other schools in the area,” Mr Boyer said.

 

“As the foundation Principal of Riverbanks College B-12, I feel privileged to welcome local families to this new state of the art school in the heart of Angle Vale,” Riverbanks College B-12 Principal Joe Priolo added.
