G8’s first graduates accept full-time positions after completing Bachelor Scholarship program

The first 25 graduates from G8 Education’s Bachelor Scholarship program have accepted full-time teaching positions with the provider upon graduation.

Now in its fourth year, the program was established to provide educators with a supported tertiary study pathway which also allows them to continue to work full-time and study while getting their degree.

“We are currently facing a sector-wide workforce shortage, and we know the pressure to recruit more early childhood teachers (ECTs) is only going to grow as new reforms create greater demand for early childhood education,” explained G8 Education’s Chief People and Transformation Officer Tabitha Pearson.

The demand for programs like the G8 offering is only set to grow, with an estimated 10,000 new university-qualified ECTs needed by 2026 to meet the needs of new government funded reforms.

First to graduate was Teuta Veis, who is now the ECT at Community Kids Shepparton, who shared that she was so grateful for the opportunity.

“Before moving to Australia from Albania, I studied and worked as a primary and secondary school teacher,” she said.

“I wanted to continue my teaching career when I moved to Australia; however, I was unsure of the process and was concerned I wouldn’t get the support I needed. G8 Education’s Bachelor Scholarship program provided me with the time, mentoring and financial support to complete my studies while I worked.”

“I am now a more confident teacher than I ever have been and have also taken on more of a mentoring role in my centre too so I can continue to grow and develop.”

Ms Veis experience hasn’t just been inspiring for her, but for her team and leaders too. Seeing her progress inspired Community Kids Shepparton Centre Manager Shanel Lines to take the steps she needed to progress her career, commencing in the Bachelor Scholarship program this year.

“During her studies Teuta would discuss her subjects with our team and share her knowledge which has opened us all up to new ways of engaging and supporting children’s learning,” she said.

“I believe upskilling and succession planning is a huge part of having a quality team of teachers and educators and helps promote team retention which is why we promote all of the study pathways options available through G8 within our service.”
