Nominations for Elected Board Members for Playgroup NSW Inc now open

September 20, 2022

Nominations for elected board members for Playgroup NSW Inc. Board of Management are now open with two Elected Board Member positions to be filled.

Nominations are open until 5pm on Friday 30 September, with the announcement of the new board members to be made at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on Wednesday 16 November 2022.

“The next couple of years promise to be exciting for Playgroup NSW,” said Ben Ramsey, Chair of Playgroup NSW Inc.

“Our organisation is growing as we fulfil our purpose to lead play-based programs and services for families with children birth to school age, offering development, shared experiences, and family support that results in active citizens and inclusive communities. The Board of Management plays a central role in guiding this important work.”

It is anticipated that the charity will transition from its current status as an Incorporated Association governed under the Associations incorporations Act 2009 (NSW) to a Company Limited by Guarantee (a specialised form of public company designed for non-profit organisations) during the three-year term.

In order to be eligible for board membership, nominees must be current members of Playgroup NSW, with a minimum of six months membership prior to nomination. Those with an experience in governance, law, early childhood, risk, and people with special needs and working alongside First Nations peoples (leadership/senior academic/research level) would complement the skills of existing board members.

Ideally nominees will have knowledge of serving on or working with a board, with Playgroup NSW supporting diversity and inclusion, encouraging people from diverse backgrounds to nominate, along with those who reside in regional areas of NSW.

Board members’ terms are for three years, subject to the provisions of the Constitution, and must make a commitment to attending and participating in three-hour board meetings in Sydney CBD every 6-8 weeks – either in person (preferred) or via teleconference/online platforms.

Board meetings are generally held during the day (10am-1pm) and during school terms (not during school holidays). Playgroup NSW will offer reimbursement of the cost of childcare if it is needed in order for board members to attend board meetings.

Nominations of candidates for the elected board member positions of Playgroup NSW must be supported and signed by the person making the nomination and another Playgroup NSW member who seconds the nomination.
